I entered the healthcare revenue business as a pathology biller. Since then I’ve worked in just about every role this industry has to offer—from coder to A/R manager to operations director—and there is one thing that’s been vital to my success in each of these positions: education.

Whether through on the job training, professional seminars or specialty classes, education has paved my path to the frontline.  

This is the reason I’ve always been a proponent of attending industry events, too. Trade shows, conferences, network meetings—these gatherings present a unique opportunity to hear from people all across the industry and gain firsthand knowledge of the things that will keep you competitive.

Consider the last several years. Around every corner there’s been some reminder that the healthcare industry, and revenue cycle management, is always changing. Laws and standards shift. Expectations evolve. What’s best practice today may put you behind the eight ball tomorrow. 

But the one who manages to stay ahead is the one who finds and capitalizes on every opportunity to train and build their knowledge base. Industry events will always be an ideal way to do precisely that.

So why not invest your time (and yes, sometimes your money) in the training opportunities that are sure to boost performance?
